Demo Dryer
On this page
A deployable clothes dryer for your base. Plug it into a generator, load your wet clothes, and it dries them in a couple of minutes, then shuts itself off.
- Dries a full load fast. Drenched clothes are dry in about a minute and a half.
- Takes anything you wear: clothes, hats, gloves, boots, vests and backpacks. 10x10 of space.
- Switches itself off with a chime once everything inside is dry, so it doesn't waste fuel.
- Ships as a kit. Place the boxed kit to deploy it, and pack it back up with a screwdriver.
- Fires dry clothing faster too. Clothes in a fireplace dry 3.75 times faster than in vanilla.
Items
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Dryer Kit | Boxed dryer. 5x5, 45 kg, carried in both hands. Place it to deploy the dryer |
| Clothes Dryer | The deployed dryer. 45 kg, carried in both hands. Holds 10x10 of clothing. Runs on power from a generator |
The dryer is repaired with an Electronic Repair Kit or a Blowtorch.
Getting started
- Take the Dryer Kit in your hands and place it. The kit becomes a Clothes Dryer.
- Plug it in. It has a 15 m cord and plugs into a Power Generator, or into a Cable Reel that's plugged into one. The generator must be running.
- Look at the door and use Open Door.
- Put your wet clothing inside.
- Use Close Door, then Switch on.
- The dryer runs until everything inside is dry, then plays a chime and switches off. Open the door and take your clothes out.
Switching on
Switch on only appears when all of these are true:
- The door is closed.
- There's at least one item inside.
- The dryer has power: it's plugged in and the generator is running with fuel.
While it runs
- The door stays locked until it stops. To stop early, use Switch off.
- If the generator runs out of fuel, the dryer stops drying.
Drying
Every 15 seconds, each item inside loses 15% wetness. The first pass happens the moment you switch it on.
| Item starts | Dry after about |
|---|---|
| Drenched | 1.5 minutes |
| Soaking wet | 1.25 minutes |
| Wet | 45 seconds |
| Damp | 15 seconds |
- Once nothing inside is wetter than 5%, the dryer switches off on its next pass.
- Clothing has to be empty to go in. Take everything out of pockets and backpacks first.
- Only wearable items fit. Food, tools and weapons can't go in.
Fireplaces
The mod also speeds up drying in fires. Clothing in a fireplace's inventory loses wetness 3.75 times faster than in vanilla. Other items dry at the vanilla rate. Fires still damage what's in them.
Power
The dryer draws 10 energy per second while it runs, a lot more than any vanilla appliance.
- A full Power Generator runs it for about 16 minutes.
- Drying a drenched load costs about a tenth of a full tank.
- Since it switches off on its own when the load is dry, it only uses what the load needs.
Moving and packing up
- Picking it up: unplug it first. Carried in first person, the dryer is hidden from your own view so it doesn't fill the screen. Other players still see it in your hands.
- Packing up: empty the dryer, then take a Screwdriver in your hands, look at the dryer and use Dismantle Dryer. The dryer turns back into a Dryer Kit on the ground. The screwdriver isn't used up.
Keeping it
The dryer is an ordinary item, so like any other it disappears after a while if nobody's around. Place it within range of a Territory Flag to keep it.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Switch on doesn't appear | Close the door, put something inside, and check the generator is on and has fuel |
| Open Door doesn't appear | The dryer is running. Switch it off, or wait for it to finish |
| An item won't go in | The door is closed, the item has something inside it, or it isn't something you can wear |
| Dismantle Dryer doesn't appear | Take everything out of the dryer first |
| It switched off straight away | Everything inside was already dry |
| My clothes are still wet | The generator ran out of fuel mid-load |
