Demo Power
On this page
Off-grid power for your base. Build a battery bank, charge it from solar panels, and run your appliances from it without burning a drop of fuel.
- Battery bank built up from a table, up to eight batteries and a power inverter. Stores up to 8000 energy, about 80% of a full Power Generator tank.
- Solar panels charge the bank from sunlight. Clear skies are best, clouds cut the output, and a roof overhead stops it.
- Runs anything a generator runs: spotlights, fridges, battery chargers, Christmas lights, cable reels, electric barbed wire, and the other Demo appliances.
- Power strip turns one of the bank's sockets into four.
- Live readouts. The bank's name shows its charge, each battery shows its own charge bar, and a plugged-in panel shows what it's generating.
- Batteries keep their charge when you take them off, so you can carry power to another bank.
- Ships as kits. Place the kits to deploy, and pack them back up with a screwdriver.
Items
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Battery Table Kit | 5x5, 15 kg, carried in both hands. Place it to deploy a Battery Bank |
| Battery Bank | The deployed table. Takes a base battery, batteries 1 to 7 and a Power Inverter. 4 sockets |
| Bank Battery | 5x3, 18 kg deep-cycle battery. Holds 1000 energy and shows its own charge bar. Spawns empty |
| Power Inverter | 3x2, 8 kg. Without it the bank gives no power and takes no charge |
| Solar Panel Kit | 8x5, 20 kg, carried in both hands. Place it to deploy a Solar Panel |
| Solar Panel | Up to 5 energy per second in full sun. 40 m cord |
| Power Strip | 3x2, 0.9 kg. Four outlets on a 15 m cord |
The bank, the panel, the batteries and the inverter are repaired with an Electronic Repair Kit. The bank and the panel also take a Blowtorch. The power strip is repaired with Duct Tape or an Electronic Repair Kit.
Getting started
- Place the bank. Take the Battery Table Kit in your hands and place it. It becomes a Battery Bank.
- Add batteries. Attach a Bank Battery to the Base Battery slot, then more to Battery 1 to Battery 7 if you have them.
- Add the inverter. Attach a Power Inverter. The bank switches on.
- Place a solar panel. Take the Solar Panel Kit in your hands and place it somewhere with open sky. It becomes a Solar Panel.
- Plug the panel in. Pick the panel up in your hands, look at the bank and use Plug in, then place the panel again anywhere within its 40 m cord. It starts charging the bank while the sun is up.
- Plug in your appliances. The same way you'd plug them into a generator.
Batteries spawn empty, so a new bank needs some sunlight before it can run anything.
Building the bank
- You don't need all eight batteries. A base battery and an inverter make a working bank. Each battery adds 1000 energy of storage.
- Batteries go on in order: the base battery first, then 1, 2, 3 and so on. Only the next free slot shows.
- The inverter slot appears once the base battery is on.
- The bank can't be picked up. To move it, pack it up (Moving and packing up).
Power
Storage
| Batteries | Stores |
|---|---|
| 1 (base only) | 1000 |
| 4 | 4000 |
| 8 (full bank) | 8000 |
The bank's name shows its charge, for example Battery Bank - 73%. Each battery's own charge bar shows what it holds. The bank draws from all its batteries evenly and charges them evenly.
Below 1% charge, appliances see the bank as empty and won't switch on. When charge comes back, appliances that were switched on start again by themselves.
Worn batteries hold less. A battery's capacity drops with its health, down to half at 0 health. A bank of worn batteries tops out below 100%.
How long it lasts
On a full eight-battery bank:
| Appliance | Runs for about |
|---|---|
| Battery Charger | 9 days |
| Refrigerator | 22 hours |
| Spotlight | 16 hours |
| Clothes Dryer (Demo_Dryer) | 13 minutes |
Several appliances on one bank share it, so it empties faster.
What plugs in
The bank and the power strip take the same plugs a Power Generator does: spotlights, Christmas lights, fridges, battery chargers, cable reels, electric barbed wire, and Demo appliances such as the dryer, fridge, ovens, raid alarm and Anti-Drone System.
The bank has 4 sockets, shared by panels, appliances and power strips. Run out and a power strip turns one socket into four.
Solar panels
A panel in full, clear sun puts 5 energy per second into the bank. That fills an empty 8-battery bank in about 27 minutes, or a single battery in just over 3 minutes.
What cuts the output:
| Condition | Output |
|---|---|
| Clear midday sky | 100% (5 per second) |
| Fully overcast | 15% |
| First and last 2 hours of daylight | Ramps up from 0 after sunrise, down to 0 before sunset |
| Night | 0 |
| Roof or ceiling overhead | 0 |
| Rain | No effect beyond the clouds that come with it |
- A panel on a building's roof works fine. A panel indoors or under a bridge doesn't.
- While plugged in, the panel's name shows what it's generating right now, for example Solar Panel - 4.2/s.
- Panels plug straight into the bank. They don't fit a power strip, and they charge nothing else.
- More panels charge faster. Each one takes a socket.
- A panel only charges a bank that has its inverter on. Take the inverter off and charging stops.
- A ruined panel generates nothing.
- When the batteries are full, the extra charge is lost.
Moving a panel
- The panel can only be picked up while it's unplugged. Once plugged in, it stays put.
- It's carried in both hands and can't go in an inventory. In first person it's hidden from your own view so it doesn't fill the screen. Other players still see it in your hands.
- To move it: unplug it, pick it up, then plug it back in or place it.
Power strip
- Hold the strip, look at the bank and use Plug in, then place the strip anywhere within its 15 m cord.
- Plug appliances into the strip just like into the bank. Strips and cable reels can plug into a strip too.
- The strip doesn't use or store power. It only passes it on.
- Picking the strip up into your inventory unplugs it and everything on it.
- Aim at one of its outlets to pull that cord out, or at the strip's own cord to unplug the strip.
Moving and packing up
Packing up the bank:
- Unplug everything from the bank: panels, appliances and strips.
- Take the Power Inverter off. It won't come off while anything is plugged in.
- Take the batteries off in reverse order: Battery 7 first, the base battery last. The base battery is locked in while the inverter is attached.
- Take a Screwdriver in your hands, look at the bank and use Dismantle Battery Bank. It turns back into a Battery Table Kit on the ground.
Packing up a panel: unplug it, then use a Screwdriver on it: Dismantle Solar Panel. It turns back into a Solar Panel Kit.
The screwdriver isn't used up. Kits keep their damage: a damaged bank or panel packs up into a damaged kit and places as a damaged bank or panel again.
Keeping it
The bank, panels and strips are ordinary items, so like any other they disappear after a while if nobody's around. Place them within range of a Territory Flag to keep them.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Appliances won't switch on | The bank is below 1%, or it has no inverter. Check the bank's name for its charge |
| Plug in doesn't appear on the bank for a panel | Attach the Power Inverter first |
| The inverter slot doesn't show | Attach the base battery first |
| A battery slot doesn't show | Fill the slot before it first. Batteries go on in order |
| The inverter won't come off | Something is still plugged into the bank. Unplug it first |
| A battery won't come off | Take off the higher-numbered batteries first. The base battery needs the inverter off |
| The panel shows 0.0/s | It's night, or something is overhead. Move it out into the open |
| The panel won't plug into the power strip | Panels only plug into the bank |
| The panel can't be picked up | It's plugged in. Unplug it first |
| Dismantle Battery Bank doesn't appear | Take off every battery and the inverter, and unplug everything |
| Dismantle Solar Panel doesn't appear | Unplug the panel first |
