Claim a vehicle, lock it with a 5-digit code, and decide who else gets in. Locked vehicles can't be entered, opened or stripped. Anyone who enters the right code once can lock and unlock it from then on, until you change the code or revoke them. Unclaimed vehicles are cleared out on a schedule.

• Claim any car, truck or helicopter and it's yours. Claimed vehicles survive the server's cleanup of unclaimed ones.
• Lock with a 5-digit code. A locked vehicle can't be entered, its doors stay shut, and its cargo and parts can't be touched.
• Share access by sharing the code. Entering it once gives lasting access with a one-press Unlock.
• Manage who gets in. See everyone with access, revoke one person, or reset everyone at once.
• My Vehicles (Alt+K) lists everything you own, how far away it is, and how much of your limit you're using.
• Per-category limits: for example one car and one helicopter.
• Car Lock Cracker picks a lock in a minute, with a car alarm going the whole time.
• Lock and unlock chirp at the vehicle, audible only to people standing next to it.

The numbers on this page are the defaults. Servers can change the limits, the cleanup timings and the crack time.

Getting started

1. Walk up to an unlocked vehicle and use Manage Vehicle. It works anywhere on the vehicle.
2. Press CLAIM. The vehicle is now yours.
3. Use Manage Vehicle again, press SET CODE and type a 5-digit code twice.
4. Close every door. Look at one of them and use Lock Vehicle. You hear a chirp.
5. To get back in, look at a door and use Unlock Vehicle. You don't need to type the code again.

Claiming

• Manage Vehicle opens a window about the vehicle in front of you. It shows who owns it and what you can do with it. It doesn't appear on a locked vehicle.
• On an unclaimed vehicle, CLAIM makes it yours. Claiming doesn't set a code.
• A claimed vehicle is protected from the cleanup of unclaimed vehicles (Cleanup).
• Each claim counts against your limit for that kind of vehicle (Limits).
• Anyone can use Manage Vehicle to see who owns a vehicle.

Codes and locking

Setting a code

Only the owner can set a code. Use Manage Vehicle, press SET CODE (or CHANGE CODE), type 5 digits, then type them again to confirm.

• A claimed vehicle with no code can't be locked by anyone. It's yours, but anyone can get in. My Vehicles marks it no code.
• Changing the code takes access away from everyone you'd given it to.
• REMOVE CODE deletes the code. The vehicle stays yours, but nobody can lock it until you set a new code, and everyone you'd given access to loses it.

Locking

Lock Vehicle appears when you look at a closed door of a vehicle that has a code. Anyone can lock it, not only people with access.

Every door must be fitted and shut. A vehicle with a door missing or open won't lock.

What a lock does

While a vehicle is locked:

• Nobody can get in, and its doors can't be opened from outside.
• Its cargo is hidden and nothing can be put in or taken out.
• Its parts can't be taken off: wheels, doors, battery, spark plug and so on.
• Anyone already inside stays inside, can drive, and can still get out.

If a door comes off a locked vehicle, the lock drops. The code and everyone's access stay, so fit the door again and lock it.

Unlocking

Look at a closed door:

• Unlock Vehicle appears for the owner and for anyone with access. It unlocks straight away.
• Enter Code appears for everyone else. Type the code. If it's right the vehicle unlocks and you now have access: next time you get Unlock Vehicle instead.

Locking and unlocking play a short chirp at the vehicle. It can't be heard more than 10 m away.

Access

Entering a vehicle's code once gives you access to it. Access lasts through server restarts and ends when:

• the owner changes or removes the code,
• the owner revokes you, or resets everyone's access,
• the vehicle is released, cracked, or loses its claim for being idle.

My Vehicles (Alt+K)

Press Alt+K, or MY VEHICLES in the Manage Vehicle window. The window has two tabs.

VEHICLES lists everything you own:

• The vehicle's name and how far away it is.
• Who can get in: just you, +3 access (three other people), or no code in amber, meaning anyone can.
• ACCESS opens the vehicle on the ACCESS tab.
• RELEASE gives the vehicle up. It works from anywhere on the map, and on a locked vehicle too: the vehicle unlocks and becomes unclaimed.
• The line at the top shows your use of each limit, such as Cars 1/1 | Helicopters 0/1 | Other 0/1.

ACCESS lists you and everyone with access to the chosen vehicle:

• REVOKE takes one person's access away. If they're standing at the vehicle their Unlock prompt disappears.
• RESET ACCESS takes everyone's away at once and keeps the code.

Limits

You can claim a limited number of vehicles of each kind. The default categories:

The limits are separate: with the defaults you can hold one car, one helicopter and one other vehicle at the same time.

• At your limit, claiming says CARS LIMIT REACHED (1/1) - RELEASE ONE FIRST (ALT-K).
• If you end up over a limit, because extra slots ran out or the server lowered it, your vehicles in that category won't start. The engine cuts out with OVER CARS LIMIT (2/1). Release vehicles in Alt+K until you're back at the limit. Vehicles in other categories still run.

Releasing

Release a vehicle from Manage Vehicle (it must be unlocked) or from My Vehicles (from anywhere). It becomes unclaimed: no owner, no code, nobody has access, and anyone can claim it.

Cleanup

• Unclaimed vehicles are deleted so the server can spawn fresh ones. Vehicles with someone sitting in them are skipped.
• Starting the engine of an unclaimed vehicle warns UNCLAIMED VEHICLE! VEHICLE WILL DESPAWN!. Claim it to keep it.
• Claims lapse on idle vehicles. A vehicle that nobody has driven, locked or unlocked for 30 days loses its claim and becomes unclaimed, so the next cleanup removes it. Vehicles with someone sitting in them are skipped.

Cracking a lock

Hold a Car Lock Cracker and look at a claimed vehicle (within 3 m):

• On a locked vehicle it's Pick Vehicle Lock (1 min).
• On a claimed, unlocked vehicle it's Strip Vehicle Ownership (1 min).

It takes 1 minute and sets off the car alarm for the whole time, audible about 350 m away. Stopping early stops the alarm and does nothing to the vehicle.

When it finishes, the vehicle is unlocked and unclaimed: the owner, code and everyone's access are gone, and anyone can claim it. The cracker is ruined.
